YOUNGSTERS experienced the magic of Wonderland.

Ladywood School was transformed into the fantastic world created by Lewis Carroll in his much loved children’s story Alice in Wonderland.

Teachers at the Little Lever primary school worked with Simon Sullivan, a drama and arts specialist to transform the school for its creative arts week to bring the enjoyment of culture and arts to their pupils.

They even experienced going down the rabbit hole.

During the week, excited youngsters created their own magical potions, listened to stories in the fabulous settings, which included a forest, learnt a dance from the Queen of Hearts, sang a song with the Knave of Hearts, enjoyed a tea party with the Mad Hatter and made jam tarts.

Teachers looked as if they had stepped straight from the pages of the book as they dressed up as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, the White Rabbit and the other amazing characters.

Arts co-ordinator Yvonne Heywood, whose twin sister also works at the school, were Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. She said: “School was decorated in half term by staff and artists.

“We want the children to be engaged, excited and enthused by their learning however the arts team have worked with the English team to look at ways of improving writing so next week we are going to follow it up with writing tasks to look at how creative activities can impact writing. Each class have invited parents to a session.”

Children from local schools also had a chance to experience Wonderland, with Ladywood Primary inviting two pupils from each cluster school to take part in activities.

Playing for Success, a Bolton-based organisation which enriches the curriculum, also helped organise activities.

Wonderland will disappear on Monday after the children help the Queen of Hearts with a trial!
