FIREFIGHTERS were called to a blaze involving more than 20 tyres.

It is believed to have been started by youths and also badly damaged a football pitch.

The fire service was called to the scene, off Crompton Way, at around 3pm today and found a large pile of tyres ablaze.

It was estimated to involve around 20 or 30 tyres and took around 20 minutes for firefighters to extinguish it.

It had been started near the goals on the football pitch and had badly damaged the ground around it.

James Bracegirdle, from Bolton North fire station, said it was rather started by youths or was a result of someone fly-tipping and trying to destroy it.

Firefighters were also called to Brandwood Street, in Daubhill, yesterday afternoon to another rubbish fire.

Youths were spotted running away from the scene and it took firefighters around ten minutes to extinguish it.
