FIRE crews were called to a suspected gas leak at an industrial unit in Horwich.

Crews attended Lostock Skip Hire at the bottom of Crown Lane on Tuesday afternoon.

Teams used specialist gas measuring equipment and liaised with a gas supply company to resolve the solution.

Watch officer Glyn Megann said: “We have proven that there is a small build-up of marsh gas in the area and it is being dealt with appropriately.

“The Environment Agency has been informed and there is no risk to health as it stands as there were only very low quantities.

“It is expected the smell will be gone in the next 24 hours.”
