YOUNG historians stepped back in time – to the age of the Vikings.

Children at Turton and Edgworth CE Methodist Primary School have been studying Scandinavian history.

Pupils from years five and six shared their findings with parents over a special Viking banquet.

A traditional three-course meal was served. It consisted of vegetable and lentil soup, garlic fowl and ribs with Norse sauce, garlic chicken and BBQ ribs. There was also shield biscuits - shortbread and cherry biscuits - and milk and grains with honey, otherwise known as rice pudding.

Children served the food after helping catering staff to prepare it.

Year Five class teacher Katie O'Donnell, said it had been a fantastic event.

She said: "The staff, children, parents and guardians had such a wonderful time during the unique presentation evening.

"Pupils have been learning about the Vikings as their class topic this term, and so were full of facts and information about the Viking Age."

Robyn Valentine, Year Six class teacher, added: "Pupils were dressed in homemade Viking outfits which added to the authenticity of the event.

"I am so proud of the children for their excellent behaviour and manners – they showcased a truly epic time in history with passion and enthusiasm."
