A WOMAN who pursued a successful career as a dietitian after suffering with eating disorder anorexia nervosa as a youngster, is set to have her own TV series.

Dimple Thakrar, from Bolton, is sharing her skills and passion for healthy eating with the nation when she launches her own six-part series FOOD Freedom on December 8 on Amazon Prime.

She said: “By the age of 13 I had pushed the self-destruct button with my eating, affecting me psychologically, physically and stunting my growth and fertility.”

Dimple knew she needed to reverse this behaviour, which she did. But, her need to find the real truth about food prompted her to pursue a career in dietetics – the study of nutrition.

She spent more than 20 years in the NHS before leaving to start her own business and has created her Food Freedom System of evidence-based nutrition and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) which is all aimed at compulsive yo-yo dieters.

The system was born as a result of Dimple overhearing a conversation between her two daughters, 13 year-old Maya and Kiera, aged eight, discussing how many of their fruit and vegetables they had eaten that day.

“I realised that my girls had an amazing relationship with food because I’d spent years actively nurturing it,” she explained. “I felt that this was attainable for all parents and parents-to-be.

“My purpose is to stop the dieting madness from unqualified sources and to give people back the control of their eating with the right messages and simple strategies for life.”

Dimple’s passion and drive to end the suffering of distorted eating drove her to film the TV series which teaches simple ways to fit in positive nutrition with people’s busy lives, “to allow you to enjoy the foods you love guilt-free”.

As well as the TV series, Dimple also has a book on the Food Freedom system out soon and a TEDx Talk. There is an advanced screening of the show at a free event at the Holiday Inn on Thursday from 6pm to 9pm.
