THE IT team at a Bolton business proved they were switched on after winning a national award.

Electrical on-line giants AO.com scooped UK IT Team of the Year — beating off competition from entrants from across the country at this year's BCS and Computing UK IT Industry Awards.

And the company was placed second in the best place to work in IT.

The award, presented at Battersea Park Events Arena in London, recognised the how the IT team had been 'fundamental' in achieving its business goals over the last 12 months, the culture of promoting development and progression of employees within the team and using the latest in technology.

Adam Warne, Group IT Director at AO.com, said: "Everyone at AO is delighted to have won this award, especially ahead of our busiest time of the year, Black Friday. The team here is absolutely bursting with talent and they have consistently gone to great lengths to go above and beyond this year. This win is a true reflection of just how much hard work has been put in.

"As a team, we like to challenge the ordinary and focus on five key deliverables, fail fast, deliver fast, don’t compromise on quality, measure everything and continually improve."

Online electricals retailer, AO.com was founded in 2000 by John Roberts following a £1 bet in a Bolton pub. Mr Roberts remains an Executive Director of the company today, while former COO, Steve Caunce was appointed CEO in February 2017.

Computing's editorial director Stuart Sumner said: " "The levels of talent and innovation that we have seen in the many wonderful entries to these awards was a genuine thrill this year, and I know I can speak for all the judges in saying that it was a real pleasure judging these awards.

"Between us we have seen hundreds of incredible projects, teams and individuals, and as ever, the hardest part has been to choose a winner in each category from so many deserving entries."
