AN HGV driver who was within a hair's breadth of causing a smash with a police vehicle and a wagon was handed a fine of £525 by Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court.

Istvan Bogdanovics, 36, of Wemsley Grove, Bolton, was also given eight penalty points on his licence after being charged with driving the HGV on the East Lancashire Road, Boothstown without due care and attention on September 23.

The near miss was caught on camera by police as Bogdanovics missed the police vehicle but a wagon in the outside lane was unable to stop in time and clipped his HGV, which appears to be crossing the main carriageway. The video was posted on Twitter by GMP Traffic.

Appearing on December 5, Bogdanovics pleaded guilty to the offence and was fined £400, a victim surcharge of £40 and prosecution costs amounting to £85.
