A DRIVER smashed a car into a house before speeding off  — leaving behind the front bumper and the registration plate.

Emergency services were called to Keswick Drive on the Bury and Radcliffe border at 11.30pm after the car crashed into the front room causing massive structural damage.

Fortunately the woman, who is in believed to in her late 60s, escaped unharmed after being awoken by the noise of the crash.

An investigation has now been launched and police are now appealing for information to trace the driver.

Firefighters from Whitefield Fire Station described the woman who lived in the house as 'shaken' but okay.

She was forced to stay elsewhere overnight and the property will be examined by the building inspector.

Crew Manager Gareth Houghton said: "When we arrived the vehicle had gone, but the front bumper and registration were on the floor.

"There was structural damage to the front of the house.

"We isolated the utilities and we have handed the incident over to Six Town Housing."

He added: "The woman was upstairs at the time, she is okay but shocked."

Crews were on the scene for just over an hour and police were informed Yesterday debris from the crash littered the front garden and the house has been boarded up and secured.

A spokesman said the incident was being investigated and asked anyone with information to ring 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously 0800 555 111 quoting incident 2372/16/12/17.
