YOUNG people lived every child's dream by taking part in a trolley dash in Toys R Us.

Big-hearted pupils at Bolton School raised £2,820 to spend on toys to be given to children who may otherwise not getting any presents this Christmas.

They trolley dash took place in the Bolton store and has become school tradition having taking place for a few years at this time of year — although this year it may be their last as the store is 'likely' to close.

next year after the company announced it was cutting at least 26 of its stores in the UK.

Five Year Seven girls transformed into Santa's little helpers as they dashed around the store having only 15 minutes to fill their trolleys with gifts for boys and girls of all ages .

Tanya Thakrar, aged 12, said: "It was great fun! We split the work out so that some of us bought toys for girls and some for boys.

"We had a good range of toys in the end but it was harder than it looks doing it in just 15 minutes. It was good to know it was for such a good cause.”

The toys will be donated to Key 103's Cash4Kids Mission Christmas Appeal and a further £1,000 was donated to the appeal.

The money had been raised by a 24 hour sponsored silence which involved the whole year group of 126 Year Seven pupils.

Tanya said: "It was a really hard challenge keeping quiet for a full 24 hours.

"We had to be imaginative at break and lunch times when we wanted to communicate with each other, either through using our iPads or by writing. However, we all knew we were raising funds for a really good cause so it was well worth it."

Samantha Tomlinson said: "I am really proud of the girls who have got behind this campaign. They know the thousands of pounds they have raised will help spread a little cheer this Christmas.

"As a reward, some of them will hopefully get to visit the Key 103 studio, where they can see first-hand the great work that is being done by Mission Christmas."
