A FAMILY had to evacuate their home after a fire broke out in the kitchen.
The incident happened at about 9.45am this morning in Chedworth Crescent when the blaze started by the cooker.
The smoke alarms were activated and the family got themselves out of the property before calling the fire service.
Two fire engines from Farnworth were dispatched and crews put out the fire.
Nobody was injured and the kitchen was not badly damaged.
Steve Coote, watch manager at Farnworth Fire Station, said: "It was not a major fire but the main thing is that the smoke alarms raised the alarm and the family was able to make an exit before calling us.
"Smoke alarms do work as they give an early warning. If people do have smoke alarms then check them, if they don't then we can install them."
