BURY-born boxer Scott Quigg has reopened the Stables Country Club's gym, following a £500,000 refurbishment.

Quigg, aged 29, joined members of staff at the gym last week to cut the ribbon on the new facilities, which include the refurbishment of the pool area and female changing rooms, as well as the installation of a new sauna.

Quigg has been a member at the gym, in Walshaw Road, for a number of years and was delighted to be part of its reopening.

He said: “The place has been completely transformed, I’m really impressed with it, it looks absolutely brilliant.

“I’m going to be spending a lot of time here!”

The refurbishment to the pool area included the installation of a hydro massage jacuzzi with four jets and seven blast nozzles and a stylish water feature which cascades a gentle flow of water.

There is also a designer Harvia sauna with feature tiling and lighting and a new plant room with state of the art filtration system and a top of the range heating unit.

The female changing rooms have also been transformed, and now include new showers, tiles, lockers, vanity areas and toilets.

Sarah Sikorski, owner and managing director of Lavender Hotels, which owns the leisure club, said: "I'm absolutely delighted with the refurbishment. We've used only the best materials, fixtures and fittings which is evident in the finished product.

“Following an £80,000 refurbishment of the Hayloft function room earlier in the year, this latest investment takes our total spending to nearly £600,000, which I think underlines our commitment in ensuring The Stables Country Club remains one of Bury's premier venues for leisure and functions."

Stables Country Club is part of the Lavender Group, a privately-owned collection of six individual properties located in Lancashire and Cheshire.

To celebrate the refurbishment, they are offering customers a number of deals in January, including up to three months free membership.
