POLICE are appealing for information after a firework was thrown through a letterbox in Bury.

Officers were called to reports of an arson on Spring Street, close to Bury town centre, in the early hours of Saturday, December 30.

A couple had been sleeping when they were awoken by a loud noise downstairs.

They found a lit firework had been pushed through their letterbox.

It went off in the house, but no one was injured and no damage was caused to the property.

A similar incident happened at the address on Tuesday, October 31, when again, the couple were awoken and discovered that a firework had been posted through their door.

Detective Constable Danny Whitaker of GMP’s Bury borough, said: “Whoever put the firework through this couples’ letterbox needs to be held to account for their actions.

“Fireworks can be incredibly dangerous in the wrong hands and it’s not difficult to imagine the destruction that could have been caused if the firework set alight in their home.

“We are treating this arson very seriously and are following a number of lines of enquiry, but we still need your help.

“If you were in the area between 1.30am and 2am and heard a disturbance, or saw someone acting suspiciously, please get in touch with police.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 186 of 30/12/17. Reports can also be made anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
