MEMBERS are hoping to rebuild a rugby club that was 'mothballed' when it lost its old ground nine years ago.

Lostock Rugby Football Club has not had any players or coaches since the playing fields at British Aerospace in Horwich were taken away.

But now, the remaining people, who continued paying their membership to the Rugby Football Union, have secured a new ground at Lostock Sports Club in Chew Moor Lane.

Club president Barry Jubb is now looking for people from the community to help with coaching.

The 73-year-old said: "We are now effectively building a community club from scratch so we want to start off with minis and juniors.

"We do need a lot of help so if there is anyone in the area who think they can help then please get in touch.

"It is very important for us and the community. We fought long and hard to get these fields replaced and we obviously do not want it to go to waste."

The club started life in 1956 at its former home and Mr Jubb, who lives in Horwich, has been a member since 1965.

Despite not have played or trained since 2009, there are still 40 members who are made up of former players and committee officials.

Mr Jubb said: "The members are currently all old people like me at the moment who are trying to provide facilities for the younger generation."

Anyone who is interested in helping the club can attend a meeting on Saturday, which will be held at the clubhouse at Lostock Sports Club at 10.30am. Alternatively, contact Mr Jubb by calling 01204 696998 or by emailing barry.jubb@gmail.com
