THE official selection for Manchester Film Festival was revealed yesterday.

For the fourth year running the film festival will be screening UK and world premieres and a selection of feature films, documentaries, shorts and music videos.

The line up was announced yesterday and includes more than 100 films, featuring big name actors like Sean Penn, Nicholas Cage and Catherine Tate.

Al Bailey, the programming director, said: "The themes are still there for the audience to find but our selection of films have been chosen because we think they are good and will appeal to and entertain many demographics of people, and not because they fit into a certain box."

Opening the festival will be female-led Western, Painted Lady and the closing film is the UK premiere of Nona starring Kate Bosworth.

The festival runs from March 1 to March 4.

The full line up can be seen at maniff.com online, where passes can also be bought for screenings.

The festival will be held at the Great Northern ODEON in Deansgate, Manchester.
