PLANS to demolish part of an historic building to make way for a retirement home have been submitted.
The application requests outline planning permission to demolish the rear part of the Grant Arms, in Market Place, Ramsbottom and build 28 bedrooms and a communal lounge at the back.
The plans include retaining the existing facade of the Grade II listed building, which is currently empty.
Similar plans to build 24 retirement flats on the site were refused in 2016.
Both applications were submitted by property developers Astim Ltd, who now own the pub as well as its car park and the former bowling green at the back.
A design and access statement submitted along with the application says that the aim is ‘to create a retirement home in close proximity to local amenities for the elderly.’
The deadline for objections and comments is Thursday, February 15.
