IT'S not just professional actors in Hollywood who are being recognised during awards season — those closer to hope are being celebrated for their outstanding talent too.

Three Towns Operatic Society has scooped two awards at The Association of Community Theatre (ACT) Awards evening.

It follows the am-dram society's hugely successful production of Trial by Jury and H.M.S. Pinafore at St Joseph’s Hall, Leigh in May.

Leading soprano Victoria Goulden, aged 32, was awarded Most Accomplished Actress in a Musical.

In H.M.S Pinafore she played the part of Josephine, the Captain’s daughter and the jilted bride in Trial by Jury.

In the Three Towns upcoming production of Orpheus in the Underworld Victoria will play Eurydice, the attractive and flirtatious wife of Orpheus.

David Kay, aged 68, was awarded Most Original Character Actor in a Musical for his role as Sir Joseph Porter in H.M.S. Pinafore.

As director he was nominated for The Most Original Production Concept for both productions H.M.S. Pinafore and Trial by Jury.

David will direct the society’s production of Orpheus in the Underworld and will play the part of Mercury, the wing-healed athletic messenger.

Catherine Kay from The Three Towns Operatic Society said: "This society goes from success to success receiving nominations and winning awards every year.

"They are now in rehearsal for their production of Orpheus in the Underworld.

"An adventurous helter-skelter journey from Greece, up to Mount Olympus and down to the Underworld. Fun and mischief with bouncing, foot-tapping music, including the Can-Can!!"

Orpheus in the Underworld runs from May 15 to 19 at St. Joseph’s Hall, Leigh WN7 2PR
