A PUB in which TV stars Jenny Ryan and Anne Hegerty play quiz league matches, has suddenly closed its doors.

The recently refurbished Victoria and Albert, in Lee Lane, Horwich, closed earlier this month without any explanation to customers.

A notice appeared in the window of the premises on Tuesday, posted by landlords Buywell Super Discount Centre and Butterstile Properties.

The notice read: “The landlord has today re-entered The Victoria And Albert in accordance with the landlord’s power under clause 34 of the lease.

“As a consequence of the re-entry, the lease is forfeited and the premises has been secured. And take notice that no one can lawfully enter the premises unless that have been given authorisation by the landlord.

“Any attempt to enter the premises without the landlord’s authority may be a criminal offence and result in prosecution.”

The lease was made on April 3 last year between the landlord and tenant John Stewart McGinlay.

It is not currently clear why Buywell has decided to re-enter the premises and whether it will reopen in the future.

The pub is the home venue for the Albert quiz league team, for whom Jenny Ryan and Anne Hegerty, regulars on the ITV game show The Chase, play on Monday evenings in the Bolton Premier Quiz League.

Jenny, who grew up in Horwich, and Anne are both former winners of the league's Brain of Bolton competition.
