BOLTON Hospice is bringing back its fire walk challenge — with an added twist.

The Fire and Ice Walk 2018 includes not only a 20ft walk across smouldering hot coals, but a 15ft stride over razor-sharp glass.

Hospice events manager, Maria Passarello said: “Raising sponsorship for this challenge will enable our brave patients to continue to receive the expert care that we can provide for them and their families. Being brave will make us proud”.

At the fire walk last year 45 plucky men and women hot-footed it across the embers at Bolton Rugby Club to raise more than £10,000 for patients, families and the staff who provide treatment all year round. Many were taking part in memory of loved ones who had been cared for by the hospice.

Ward volunteer and student nurse Nathan Harrison, has already signed up for the new challenge, which takes place at Ridgmont House, Horwich, on February 24.

He has been helping out at the hospice since 2016, after his nana, Alice Kisilevych, who had received care from Bolton Hospice support services nine years earlier.

Mr Harrison said, “Since beginning volunteering at the hospice, I quickly recognised that the patients I met were very brave and the nursing team has a lot of courage to deliver compassionate care to terminally ill patients. In respect of this, I’m taking on this challenge to raise money and awareness for our terminally ill patients.”

Registration costs £20 for each walk or £25 for both. For more information visit https://www.boltonhospice.org.uk/events or email fundraising@boltonhospice.org
