A GYM is opening its doors to the homeless and the community.

Anarchy Martial Arts is offering free training sessions to those living rough and those who have no permanent address.

And community groups would also have use of the complex for free.

The offer comes as the gym had undergone a transformation thanks to a donation.

The gym has weights, a boxing ring, dance studio and equipment which groups can use. Mr Bowling said the offer lends itself to different groups, including only women sessions, to help improve the health and wellbeing of the community.

Andrew Bowling, one of the partners at the gym, organised an event to those living rough in 2015 where they received clothes, food, haircuts and showers.

He said: "We would offer sessions to those who are homeless to give them something to focus on to give them confidence and to try and help improve their physical and mental health to make them feel better about themselves.

"We would run these in the evening and it would give those who are homeless something positive to focus on. There are many homeless people who are sleeping on different couches and are unable to get a job because they don't know where they will be sleeping one day to the next — but through this we may even be able to put them on training course.

"They would also get a healthy hot meal, which we would provide."

Mr Bowling, aged 33 who lives in Breightmet, said: "We received a donation of £10,000 worth of weights equipment from ServiceSport, which gave it to us to offer up to the community

"We want to offer free personal training sessions to those who are homeless to improve their self-confidence.

"During the day the gym is not being used much so we want community groups, who have a responsible supervisor, to use the facilities, or for instructors, such as a Zumba teacher, if they are starting off, to contact me and have a chat.

"We would offer the use free to groups to begin with and then take it from there."

Mr Bowling added: "It is giving something back to the community."

The gym is based on Tennyson Street.
