A SPECTACULAR aircraft display this weekend will celebrate the centenary of the Royal Air Force.

Air Cadets from three squadrons — Horwich, Chorley and Leyland — have combined to produce a display of aircraft used by the RAF in the past 100 years in model form.

The models, most of which have been built by the cadets, depict a range of aircraft from early biplanes, aircraft of World War II, through to modern jets.

As well as individual models, the display will also include a number of dioramas of specific events such as the Berlin Air Lift and the Gulf War.

Paul Wong, a Civilian Instructor at Horwich said: “We encourage cadets to get involved in aircraft modelling. Not only do they develop modelling skills, but they also get to learn about the subject being modelled, and in the case of the dioramas, to find out more about the events depicted. We are delighted to be able to show our work off at the biggest model show in the north of England, and to be able to contribute to the RAF 100 celebrations.”

The Bolton Model Show takes place at the Macron Stadium from 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
