RAIL users in Bolton are set to be hit by more disruption when Manchester Victoria station closes to trains over the Easter Weekend.

Northern Rail has announced the station will be closed from March 30 to April 2 so that Network Rail can prepare a section of the railway for electric trains as part of the ongoing Great North Rail Project

The work is to electrify the lines between Manchester and Preston, through Bolton, and will take place around platforms five and six.

It will involve lowering and realigning existing track under Cheetham Hill Road Bridge.

This will result in no trains being able to access or depart the station throughout the Easter weekend.

The routes affected by the closure include trains from Bolton to Manchester and Manchester Airport and services through Bolton between Manchester and Blackburn and Clitheroe.

Northern said bus replacement services will be be in operation while the work takes place.

The station building will remain open and Metrolink services will be running as normal from the station.

Normal services will resume on Tuesday 3 April 2018.

Revised timetables have not been finalised and when they have been they will be available from the Northern Rail website.
