THEY impressed Peter Kay – and now two of the stars of Bolton’s Got Talent will be taking to the stage at a leading London theatre to perform the hit West End play Billy Elliot.

Jaiden Sayer, who won first prize in the competition, held to mark The Bolton News’ 150th anniversary in December, will take the title role – a part he has wanted to play since watching the musical in 2016.

The 14-year-old will appear in the production at Sadler’s Well Theatre in London alongside competition runners-up, the talented members of Theatre Works — which he has since joined.

He said: “I was really shocked – I had just won Bolton’s Got Talent and as I was getting changed Theatre Works approached me and asked me if I wanted to play the role.

"I’ve always wanted to be in a show – we’ve done little ones with my dance school but never anything like this.

“We’ve started rehearsals and they’re all going well so far.

"I’m really excited now, but my only worry is forgetting my lines.

“I’ve never acted before but I do drama at school and I’ve taken to it really well." Theatre Works actually entered the competition in a bid to win money to take the young performers from Bolton and Bury to perform at the London theatre.

Emma Matthews from Theatre Works said: “Amazingly we came second and won £500 which has gone a long way to paying for transport for the children.

“We will be taking 50 children to perform Billy Elliot on Sunday, April 1.

“Even more wonderful is that Jaiden has joined Theatre Works.

“He got on so well with all the children on the night of the competition and loved our performance.

“He said he’s always wanted to perform in London and also to play Billy Elliott so we told him what were doing in London and he’s now coming with us and he will play the title role.

“So overall what an amazing evening. Both first and second place winners now joining forces.”

The performance features young talented performers from across the country.

Jaiden, who lives in Westhoughton, will take to the stage in April, with his proud family watching him.

Mum Linzi said: “He went to see Billy Elliot for the first time at Christmas in 2016 and right at the end, when Billy was flying, Jaiden said he would like to play Billy Elliot.

“He has been practising at home. He dances every day and now he is singing. He is excited and nervous about playing Billy Elliot.

“Since winning Bolton’s Got Talent he is more confident and at the competition Theatre Works made his feel so welcome and he has fitted in straight away and gelled with the group.”
