A CAR-JACKER has been jailed for six and a half years after he crashed a stolen car while fleeing from police at speeds of nearly 90mph.

Daniel Naylor was airlifted to hospital after the crash in Darwen Road, Bromley Cross, on June 16, 2015.

He had stolen a Mini in Trinity Street in the town centre at around 8am, when the driver was parked at a set of traffic lights.

Police responded and tracked the car down, which sparked the chase.

The thief was injured when the Mini crashed into a Parcel Force van in Bromley Cross and the car flipped on to the roof of a Ford Focus.

He had lost control of his vehicle after he clipped a parked car.

Firefighters and paramedics had to work to free Naylor, who was airlifted to Salford Royal Hospital.

Dramatic video footage from the pursuing police car's dashcam shows Naylor driving the Mini along Darwen Road, weaving in and out of traffic and reaching speeds of nearly 90mph.

Naylor eventually made a full recovery before he went on to commit another offence of dangerous driving last year.

The 28-year-old, of Pimlott Road, Hall i'th' Wood, was also sentenced at Bolton Crown Court for an incident of dangerous driving a month before the Bromley Cross crash.

A passenger in the Mini and the driver of the Ford Focus were both also taken to hospital after the crash.

Wreckage from the Mini was scattered up to 100 feet along Darwen Road, which was closed in both directions while crime scene investigators worked at the scene.

The Parcel Force van was also very badly damaged in the crash, which happened opposite the Bromley Cross Mini Market shop, but the driver is not thought to have been hurt.

A police community support officer was taken to hospital after he was hit by a car while guarding the scene of the crash.

Naylor was also sentenced for an incident of dangerous driving that took place on May 12, 2015 when he was driving a Ford Fiesta in Tonge Moor Road and was again pursued by police. His driving and the pursuit were seen as so dangerous police called off the chase.

On the day of the Bromley Cross crash Naylor had also driven off from a petrol station without paying while driving the Mini.

On March 22 this year, Naylor was again pursued by police, this time on Chorley Old Road, Chorley New Road, Victoria Road, New Church Road, Moss Bank Way and Knott Lane in Bolton and was charged with dangerous driving.

He was also sentenced for driving while unfit through drugs, driving without insurance and driving whilst disqualified.

Naylor was sentenced to six months in prison for the dangerous driving in May last year, two months concurrent for driving whilst disqualified and two months for driving whilst under the influence of drugs.

He was given four months in prison for the dangerous driving in May, 2015, four years and six months for the robbery, one month concurrent for the offence of making off without paying and 14 months for the dangerous driving that ended in the Bromley Cross crash.

He was sentenced to a total of six years and six months in prison and was banned from driving for six years and three months.
