WATER is continuing to spill out on to a village road several hours after residents reported the problem.

The leak, at the junction of Lower House Walk and The Crescent is causing low water pressure in nearby houses.

And villagers also fear dangerous conditions could be created if temperatures dip below zero over night, and turn the water to ice.

One resident claims to have called United Utilities to log the problem at 12.30pm this afternoon, while it is understood others have also reported the matter.

Nicola Savage, who lives in nearby Windsor Road said: "It's still going on , the water is just running down the road, it's ridiculous.

"I didn't pass it until about 4.30pm when I picked my little one up from school. It's been gushing out all day. All the side streets, all down The Crescent and Windsor Road."

She added: "It's on the main bus route, the bus stops outside the church and also the school.

"There are lots of kids walking around there and the grid is raised, so even if it stops pumping out the grid is raised and loose."

However a United Utilities spokesman said that that initial report from a member of the public, at 11.57am only mentioned low water pressures, so the incident was not prioritised by call handlers.

But a video tweeted later on was picked up by their social media monitoring team and immediately upgraded.

A team is expected on site soon.

United Utilities has now urged members of the public to include as much detail as possible when reporting a problem so incidents can be properly prioritised.

A United Utilities spokesman confirmed the problem had been fixed via Twitter at 9.40pm, Thursday, February 15.ย
