YOUNG travellers enjoyed a trip to India — without leaving the classroom.

To celebrate Modern Foreign Languages Day, junior girls at Bolton School immersed themselves in the culture and languages of the country.

Parents and grandparents were invited to share their culture, experiences and knowledge of India.

Activities including playing musical instruments associated with the country and traditional Indian dance.

Children also enjoyed a delicious Indian feast, including naan bread and rice pudding.

A spokesman for the school said: “Pupils found out more about Rangoli designs, which are usually made during Diwali or other Hindu festivals, and drew a Rangoli style elephant.

"They also created hand designs and in small groups crafted brightly-coloured and bejewelled Indian elephants. There was plenty of language learning throughout the day.

"Girls discovered how to write their name in Kannada and Tamil and sang songs in Tamil and Hindi.”
