A SCHOOL is one of the top primaries in the country for ensuring children master the 3Rs.

St Peter and St Paul’s RC Primary School was congratulated by the Minister of State for School Standards Nick Gibb for its result.

The school is in the top two per cent in England in terms of the progress pupils make from starting primary school to finishing.

In his letter, addressed to headteacher Trish Grogan, Mr Gibb said: “I would like to congratulate you, your staff and your pupils on the very high level of progress that pupils in your school have made in their reading, writing and mathematics.”

He added: “We want to ensure that every child has the necessary fluency in reading, writing and mathematics to prepare them for a successful secondary education and beyond, and your school has provided this.

“Thank you for your hard work and professionalism in producing such high standards and congratulations again to you and your staff for all you have achieved.”

Progress at the school, as published in the Key Stage Two SATs, showed that children scored well above the average in reading, writing and mathematics.

The numbers making the grade — 70 per cent — were well above the national and local average of 61 per cent.

Mrs Grogan said: “We are once again extremely proud of our amazing children at Saint Peter & Paul’s RC School.

“This is a testament to the dedication and hard work of all staff to provide every single child in their care, the very best education.

“We believe that children who have lots of fun and are happy in their learning continually strive to always be and do their very best in all aspects of their time in school.

“Well done to all the children.”
