THE school is known for providing an outstanding education for its pupils — and now Prestolee Primary School is ensuring the next generation of children continue to benefit from the best possible teaching.

Prestolee has a dedicated school-centred initial teacher training centre (SCITT) for those looking to enter the profession.

It had its first Ofsted inspection to mark the quality of training it provides for its student teachers.

All areas — overall effectiveness, the outcomes for trainees, the quality of training across the partnership and the quality of leadership and management across the partnership — were marked as outstanding.

The centre has provided teacher training since September, 2015, and works with 17 schools throughout Greater Manchester, some in areas of deprivation.

The inspector visited three schools to watch the trainees teach.

Ofsted found: "Leadership of the partnership is outstanding. Leaders are relentless in their drive for excellence and are highly ambitious for the success of both their current and former trainees, and for the schools in their partnership. Their excellent leadership has been instrumental in securing outstanding outcomes for trainees and newly-qualified teachers (NQTs)."

Inspector Neil Dixon reported: "The partnership is extremely successful in meeting the needs of individual trainees, through personalising their training programme. This ensures that trainees have the skills, knowledge and resilience needed to teach successfully in schools within the partnership and beyond."

He added:"Excellent training provides trainees with high levels of subject knowledge, an impressive range of teaching skills and highly effective strategies to manage behaviour very successfully across a range of schools.

"Consequently, by the time they complete the programme, the majority of trainees demonstrate outstanding practice in their teaching."

Employment rates for trainees was found to be 'extremely high' with the NQTs reporting that their training has prepared them extremely well for the 'rigours of the classroom'.

The report added: "Headteachers of schools outside of the SCITT partnership who had employed Prestolee NQTs were fulsome in their praise for the exceptionally high calibre of the NQTs that they had been able to appoint."

Rebecca Dunne, Strategic Director of Prestolee SCITT and headteacher of Prestolee Primary School, said: "Knowing where to train to be a teacher can be a minefield for all those potential new recruits which is why, here at Prestolee SCITT, we work so hard at promoting the School Led route into teaching.

"Our team has achieved the ultimate validation of just how much we value quality first teaching and care for the profession from Ofsted themselves.

"This is our first Ofsted inspection of ITT and we could not be prouder to have been awarded outstanding in every area. We couldn’t have done this without the support of our trainers, mentors and partnership schools. This belongs to us all."
