A TERRACED house damaged by fire after a suspected arson attack will be put up for auction next week.

The unoccupied property in Slater Street was damaged towards the end of 2015 when an open garage at the side of the home caught fire.

A 38-year-old woman, who was reportedly sleeping rough in the garage, was arrested at the time on suspicion of arson.

And now the house will go under the hammer at the AJ Bell Stadium on Wednesday at a guide price of £39,000.

Andy Thompson, senior valuer at SDL Auctions North West, said: "While it’s sad that this property has suffered some fire damage, it represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a house for development. We are advised that the property is in a poor state of repair and partly fire-damaged so internal viewings will not be possible."

The woman, who was alleged to have started the fire, managed to get herself out of the garage and she was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation before she was arrested.

The house adjoining the garage suffered damage to a door and minor damage to a kitchen.

Mr Thompson said: "The house was formerly two separate houses which have been converted into one large property, so it could be ideal to convert it back into separate homes, subject to gaining the necessary consents."

The building is one of 54 lots in the catalogue going up for sale at the auction.

It will take place at the AJ Bell Stadium in Manchester at 2pm on Wednesday, February 28.
