APPRENTICES in Bolton are celebrating success in the boardroom.

National Apprenticeship Week 2018 is ending on high note for five young people who have secured high flying jobs with giant retailer Aldi after completing a three year programme with the discount supermarket.

A ceremony was held at its new Bolton Distribution Centre at Logistics North.

Joshua Atkinson, aged 21, based at Aldi Breightmet, and Liam Brown and Nicholas Goaley, both aged 20, from Aldi Horwich, received their graduation certificates after being awarded the roles of Deputy Store Manager.

Alexander Bishop and Chelsey Allison, both aged 21, graduated as selectors at Aldi Bolton’s Regional Distribution Centre.

Alexander said: “I’ve loved my time on Aldi’s apprenticeship scheme.

“Apart from making some great friends, I’m coming away with valuable knowledge and experience for the next step in my career.

“I’m really honoured to have been offered a selector role. It’s onwards and upwards from here, and I’m looking forward to seeing where my career at Aldi leads.”

Aldi Store Apprentices are trained in all aspects of retail management during their three-year course, which features a mixture of in-store and theory work.

Apprentices on the programme also receive a Level Three retail team leader qualification, which can lead to jobs as deputy store managers.

Ruth Doyle, Regional Managing Director at Aldi, said: “Congratulations to all of our graduates on a fantastic achievement.

“We know our apprenticeships can be challenging, so we’re delighted to reward their hard work with exciting progression opportunities at Aldi.

“Each of our apprentices has the opportunity to be part of our management teams, so it’s essential that we provide market-leading training and development so their potential is realised.”

The apprenticeship scheme offers store assistant training in year one and store management training in years two and three, with a salary of £180 per week in year one, rising to £267 per week in year three— which says Aldi bosses is ‘significantly higher than the national minimum wage for apprenticeships’.

The programme lasts for three years, and candidates work towards their Level Two Warehouse Operative Qualification in their first year, and towards a Level Three Team Leader Qualification in years two and three.

Following this, there is the opportunity to join the team on a permanent basis and progress onto a management position.
