A FORMER chef has found the right recipe for his future by making a career out of the sport he loves – golf.

Jacob Greenhalgh, aged 22 and from Bolton, was working at popular eaterie, Nick’s Restaurant, but decided to swap the kitchen for the golf course and became an assistant to the professional at Regent Park Golf Centre.

In September, he starts his PGA degree in Professional Golf Studies but, in the meantime, he has started his own business Green Golf Events. His new venture involves organising golf days for local golfers all over the North-west.

“It’s all very risky,” admitted Jacob, who attended Canon Slade School and Bolton College, “but I have decided to dedicate my working life to golf.

“Hopefully, local golfers here in Bolton who know me will support my new enterprise and come and join me for great days of golf at some of the best courses in the North-west. It’s like a small-time Amateur Tour, playing different courses and in different formats with lots of prizes.”

Green Golf Events will be operating from March 21 to the end of August. Venues include Lancaster, Dunham Forest, Fleetwood, Manchester Golf Club and Cleckheaton with more venues added later in the year.

All events are open to men, women and juniors and usually include breakfast. “There will always be net prizes, longest drive and nearest pin competitions at all events and there is even a Beat the Pro at selected competitions,” added Jacob.

“I am looking for loads of players to sign up and also for sponsors to help me host the events and get their name in front of plenty of local golfers,” he stated. “I also organise golf days for companies. If it involves golf, I can help out.”

Jacob kept it all in the family at Regent Park Golf Centre, joining his brother, Samuel, who is already a fully qualified PGA professional. The pair are also keeping up a family tradition by becoming professional sportsmen: their grandfather Tommy Neill played for Bolton Wanderers in the 1950s.
