SCHOOLCHILDREN surprised care home residents when they brought them gifts and the message of Easter.

Pupils from St Gregory's Primary School visited Farnworth Care Home earlier this week and put a smile on residents' faces.

They brought them Easter gifts and performed an Easter play called the Passion of Christ for the forty residents.

Gifts given out included daffodils and Easter eggs and the pupils even made cards for the residents.

Lorraine Hallows, from the school, said: "It was absolutely amazing. The children were so good and the residents loved it. It was a really nice experience for everyone."

After the performance children went to the rooms of the residents who were not able to come out and see the play.

Speaking about the benefits of the visit for the children, Mrs Hallows said: "They understand that there is a lot of people in our community and just like Jesus they can go out into the community and bring some joy to them and make a difference."

The visit was undertaken by the school's GIFT team, a group of pupils who lead the school by following in the footsteps of Jesus.

The team is involved in bringing new ideas to teachers to help make faith come alive and taking roles in school assemblies.
