A BROTHER punched his sister in the face after chasing her into the street.

At Bolton Crown Court Callum Bond was given a suspended prison sentence after admitting causing his sibling actual bodily harm.

Rosalind Emsley-Smith, prosecuting, told the court how Sheridan Bond was at home in Division Street, Great Lever, after a night out with her partner on December 2 last year.

But at 1.45am they were woken by her 28-year-old brother, who had come to the property after he had been drinking.

Miss Bond heard her mother telling him to be quiet and to go home.

But then Callum Bond barged into her room before going to the kitchen, where he started smashing up appliances and furniture.

Miss Bond's partner escaped the property through a window.

"When the defendant realised her partner had left the house he went outside trying to find him," said Miss Emsley-Smith.

Miss Bond took the opportunity to escape the property herself, even running into the path of a car to try and get help. But it did not stop and her brother caught up to her.

When he tried to grab her she fell to the pavement and her brother told her: "You have three seconds to get back to the house."

Miss Emsley-Smith said that he then grabbed her by her ponytail and punched her in the face, bursting her nose.

Miss Bond later told police: "Blood was pouring into my mouth. I was screaming and crying out in pain."

Bond grabbed his sister's arm and marched her back to the house, only calming down when police arrived and arrested him.

The court heard that Miss Bond needed a procedure under general anaesthetic to straighten her nose.

Callum Bond, of Holmeswood Road, Great Lever, pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm, criminal damage and possessing cannabis.

Patrick Harris, defending, said that, while on remand in prison Bond has sought help for his alcohol problems.

He added: "He has a forgiving family. They are reassured by his desire to move on and deal with this particular issue. "Custody has been a sobering experience for him."

Sentencing Bond, the Honorary Recorder of Bolton, Judge Timothy Clayson told him he had "caused mayhem in the family home".

He added: "In a cowardly way you assaulted your sister. You have a supportive family despite all this.

"The only thing that saves you from immediate prison is you've already spent time in custody."

In addition to the suspended sentence, Bond was ordered to undertake 120 days of unpaid work and participate in 25 days of rehabilitation activities.
