DELIVERIES of poll cards for the May local elections have begun in Walkden and Little Hulton.

The delivery job is even bigger than usual in Salford.

An extra 7,206 residents have registered to vote in the city since the last full local elections held in 2016.

With just six weeks to go before the elections on May 3 city bosses are urging all residents to make sure they are registered to vote.

Returning Officer Jim Taylor said: “If you’ve moved house since the last elections –either within Salford or into the city, please make sure you’re on the electoral register with your new address otherwise you won’t be able to vote.

“If you didn’t register to vote when we sent out the registration forms last summer, it’s not too late. You have until midnight on Tuesday April 17 to register.

“No-one should miss having their say on how their city is run – particularly this year when we’re celebrating the 100th anniversary of success in a long, hard battle to get women the vote.”

Although poll cards will be sent to all registered electors, they do not have to be presented at polling stations when people cast their vote.
