THE drink will be flowing next weekend as hundreds of people descend on Bradshaw for the 10th annual Beer Festival.

The popular event at the village's cricket club will take place from Friday until Sunday at the sports hub in Rigby Lane.

It will feature about 22 different kinds of beer and a host of entertainment.

The festival comes just after the club suffered incidents of vandalsim and chairman Steven Dickinson is keen for the club to put that behind them and enjoy the popular event.

He said: "As far as the club is concerned with the vandalism, it is a side issue.

"The beer festival is one of our two main fundraisers with the fireworks.

"It's a great event. We have raised a lot of money for the club and a lot for charity. All in all it is a great event and we get lots of support."

The aim of the weekend is to raise "much-needed" funds for the club to enable it to continue running its activities for the forthcoming season and to invest in facilities.

But money will also be raised for two charitable organisation close to the club's heart — the Motor Neurone Disease Association and Boot Out Breast Cancer, which aims to buy equipment in the North West.

The live entertainment this year will be provided by festival debutants The Corolla's, a Warrington-based cover band.

It will play both Friday and Saturday evenings as well as Sunday afternoon.

There will also be live entertainment to finish off the weekend festivities and the Grand National will be live on the big screen on Saturday afternoon.

If the weather is nice then the club will also stage its first two cricket friendlies over the weekend.

Mr Dickinson said: "I am sure it will be a success. I think there will be about 22 beers to taste and try. We start off on the Friday and we have live music on and the live band so it is an all-round good weekend. Hopefully the weather will be nice.

"It is good fun,we have never had any problems or trouble there and long may that continue. It is always well-received."

The event will come just a few weeks after about 30 vandals caused £700 worth of damage to the club.

Members found sponsor advertising hoardings that had been installed just 18 hours earlier damaged.
