HAVE you been watching The Class of Mum and Dad on Tuesday nights on Channel 4?
This series was filmed at Blackrod Primary School where a new Year 6 “class” started, comprising pupils’ mums and dads. The resulting TV is proving absolutely fascinating.
Last week, the parents – complete with school uniform – faced maths’ tests which had one poor woman in tears and the school sports’ day, which challenged several of them.
Their teacher is Kath Mead who plainly has the patience of a saint. She is a fabulous teacher, both committed to her school and understanding of the often challenging situation the parents have signed up to here.
Some of the parents, though, are real stars, showing compassion and caring for each other and in particular for their children. The youngsters are brilliant, too – sharp, intuitive and with the clarity of youth.
It just shows how difficult some of the subjects our children learn at school are and sheds a revelatory light on the education system today. It’s super stuff!
