FIRE crews were called after a chip pan burst in to flames in Little Hulton.

The incident occurred at a house in Parkway at around 2pm today.

It is believed that a woman may have accidentally turned on the appliance and left the property, before returning to find the appliance alight.

Fire fighters controlled the flames and no damage was done to the property.

A GMFRS spokesman said: "We were called to a chip pan fire in Little Hulton. There was no damage to the property but it actually caught fire.

"A woman must have turned it on when she went out, and when she came back it had caught. She was quite lucky really."

GMFRS also warned people to be aware of the dangers of chip pan fires, and leaving them unattended, and the importance of having working smoke detectors.
