A MAN has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a crash involving two lorries on the M60.

The North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) said the incident was a major trauma and that a man suffered serious injuries.

Two lanes of the motorway were closed for much of the afternoon following the incident, which took place anticlockwise, close to junction 13 for Worsley, at about 1.30pm.

Following the incident, a man in his twenties was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary with injuries to his arm, leg and chest areas, although he was said to be conscious and breathing.

The lane closure was in place between junction 13, and junction 15, the turn-off for the M61, leading to delays of more than an hour for motorists. All lanes have since reopened, however, delays remain.

Highways England reported a large diesel spillage coming from one of the vehicles, which has also been cleared.

Firefighters from Farnworth and Whitefield Fire Station attended the scene and helped to release the injured man from his vehicle.
