THE story of the Kearsley teenager who is preparing for her GCSE’s while looking after her poorly mum is a very heartening one.

Zaynab Inam is just 16 but juggles her schoolwork with being a carer for her mum Rahat who has multiple sclerosis – the chronic autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system.

Now, Zaynab has been chosen as one of three finalists in the national Young Carer of the Year category of the MS Society’s annual awards and I’m sure we all wish her well.

Unfortunately, there are many Zaynabs around the country, putting their own young lives on hold to help care for a sick parent or other relative. Their work is not recognised enough so it’s good to see this caring local teen in the spotlight.

Hopefully, highlighting the work of Zaynab and many others will lead to more help for young carers throughout the UK.
