ADVICE has been given on how to deal with a road rage incident after a 17-year-old girl's car was recently attacked.

Roy Sammons, chairman of Bolton Advanced Motorists, was responding to when the teenager was the victim of an incident in Manchester Road, Over Hulton, on April 16, less than a month after she passed her test.

The victim had visited the Spar garage with her boyfriend and had just turned right into Manchester Road to head home towards Westhoughton before a driver in a black Audi A5 tailgated her then pulled in front and slammed on his brakes.

After getting out the car, the man, described as bald and more than six foot, attempted to open door before shouting abuse, punching the window and kicking the bonnet before driving off.

Police are currently investigating the incident and the boyfriend managed to get the registration of the Audi.

Mr Sammons said: "I would simply say try to get yourselves to a place of safety and lock your doors.

"Collect any data you can including registration plates. Nearly everybody can take a picture on their phones. The situation she found herself in, I have to say, was a bit of a nightmare. I'm not sure if trying to get away from him would have been possible.

"It would also be a good idea to get video evidence. I know a lot of people have dash-cams nowadays.

"I do not know what he thought she had done to deserve that sort of treatment.

"There is not a whole lot she could have done. The best thing to do is to try and ignore it, get away from in and get to a safe place."
