A DRIVER has appeared in court accused of causing the death of a great-grandfather by careless driving.
Anthony Locke, aged 72, died in hospital following a collision with a car in Topp Way, Bolton on October 6 last year.
At Bolton Magistrates’ Court yesterday Navnit Tailor, aged 68, of Queensgate, Bolton, made a first appearance and indicated he intends to plead not guilty to causing death by careless driving.
Magistrates sent the case to Bolton Crown Court where a plea and directions hearing will be heard on June 6.
In the meantime Tailor was granted unconditional bail.
Mr Locke was crossing Topp Way on a pedestrian crossing at 7.15pm when he was struck by a car.
Following his death dozens of tributes were paid to the pensioner, who used to play for Bolton Wyresdale football team.
