PHIL Parkinson intends to plough on at Wanderers despite the ongoing uncertainty over his own position since the end of the season.

After securing Championship status, the Bolton boss remains 100 per cent committed to building a stronger squad this summer, and after a short break is now looking to tackle a mountain of out-of-contract players at the Macron Stadium.

It is understood Wanderers owner and chairman Ken Anderson is currently in negotiation with more than one foreign-based investor, which has rendered it difficult to give cast iron assurances to Parkinson or his staff over their immediate futures.

But with no timeframe currently available for the conclusion of those talks, Parkinson will devote his efforts into speaking with more than 20 first team and development squad players who have reached the end of their current deal.

“We’ve had a week to reflect on the achievement of staying in the Championship but now we’ve got to get back to work,” the manager told The Bolton News. “Regardless of what is going on, I’ve got a job to do. So I have been in touch with players’ agents at the end of last week, and that will continue. Then I’ll sit down with a few individuals at the end of this week.”

Goalkeeper Ben Alnwick, who won Wanderers’ player of the season, could be one of the first players secured to a new contract. The 31-year-old has already held talks and said last month he was “looking to get it done quickly”.

Initial discussions have also taken place with Sammy Ameobi, who signed a one-year deal to sign from Newcastle United last summer.

Parkinson will again look to sit down and speak with every player before a retained list is announced.

“I think it’s fair to say there’s an unusual number of players out of contract this summer, so we have got a lot on our plate,” he said. “There is a lot of work to be done, so we can’t really sit back and waste time, especially with the World Cup and a shorter window.”
