A CASH delivery driver was attacked during a town centre robbery.

The 60-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment following the assault which took place on Wednesday as banks were closing for the day.

The robber or robbers struck outside the Yorkshire Bank in Oxford Street, which the cash-in-transit driver had visited shortly before the attack. They escaped with cash.

Eye-witnesses reported a large police presence in town, with one telling The Bolton News he saw a somebody with injuries in Oxford Street. Police have released little information about the robbery and the attack.

A spokesman for the police said: “ At around 4.25pm police were called to reports of a robbery at a bank on Deansgate in Bolton. A cash-in-transit driver was assaulted outside the bank. A 60-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment. A quantity of cash was stolen. Enquiries are ongoing.
