TOWN hall chiefs have given the green light for the demolition of the old Moor Lane bus station.

Bolton Council leader Linda Thomas approved plans to spend up to £200,000 on knocking down the former station after meeting with officers and Tory chief David Greenhalgh earlier this week.

She also gave the go ahead to appoint a contractor to carry out the work.

Her decision followed consideration of an officer’s report seeking permission to appoint a contractor for the demolition process.

She has delegated authority to the director of place to award the contract to the “most economically advantageous tenderer.”

And, speaking at a networking event yesterday, Bolton Council’s chief executive Tony Oakman told members of the business community that the demolition work would take place in September.

The bus station has been deserted since September last year, after which services moved to the £48million Bolton Interchange in Great Moor Street. The Moor Lane hub had served the town since the 1930s.
