A MAN has died following a serious crash involving a motorbike and a car at the M60 and M62 Eccles Interchange.

A red Jaguar and an orange custom motorbike had been travelling across the Interchange in Salford when the vehicles crashed.

The driver of the motorbike was taken to Salford Royal Hospital but police said he died as a result of his injuries, despite the best efforts of paramedics at the scene.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident.

Sergeant Darren Hancock of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "In a split second, a man’s life has been taken away and my heart goes out to his family, who are being comforted by officers.

"If you were around the Eccles Interchange at the time of the collision, or saw the bike and Jaguar as they travelled from Manchester to Liverpool, please contact police.

"Dash cam footage will be a key part of our enquiries, so I’d ask anyone with footage who was travelling on this part of the M60/M62 earlier today, to send this through to our collision investigation team."

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 10.15am on Friday.

The M60 was closed at Junction 12, with severe delays experienced by drivers on the M62 and M60.

North West Motorway Police said via social media that the incident was cleared at around 3pm.

A spokeswoman for the North West Ambulance Service said: "We were first called at 10.17am.

"We have taken a man to Salford Royal Hospital.

"An air ambulance, senior paramedic and road ambulance attended the scene."
