A BMW caught fire as its owner was driving it, resulting in a temporary road closure.
The black, BMW 5 series caught fire in St George's Road near Topp Way leaving the road shut for around half and hour while the emergency services dealt with the fire.
Crew manager Andrew Foy, from Bolton North station, attended the scene after they were called at about 12.30pm.
He said: "It was a well developed fire in the engine compartment, we were there about 25 minutes and it ended up getting recovered."
Mr Foy said the driver had seen the flames coming up through the bonnet and jumped out of the car to call the fire brigade.
He added police officers attended the scene to manage the road closure, which lasted about 30 minutes.
