Karen Grainger, who helped to organise a Royal Wedding themed street party in Knightswood, Deane, told of how the event had given people a chance to be part of a community.

She said: “It’s just been a great reason for everyone to get together, we have had an amazing turnout and it’s brought the community together.

“It’s a lovely day out and people are having a great time.”

She explained that she had met with neighbours including Meena Suresh, Gary Henshaw and Chris Houghton to organise an event.

Mrs Grainger, who has lived in the area for 22 years, added: “It’s been a great day for everyone, the community spirit is fantastic, and the children are having a great time.

“We’ve done it as an estate, it’s the first time we have done something like this, but everyone has come together.”
