THERE has been yet another moorland fire at Rivington Pike just one week after the emergency services issued a warning to residents.

An area of grassy moorland at the bottom of Rivington Pike was ablaze on Sunday night.

Crews from Horwich and Bolton North used hose reels to extinguish the flames after being called at around 6.30pm.

The fire comes just one week after Bolton crews and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue warned residents to take care as fires can easily spread in dry weather.

Residents have been urged to call the fire service as soon as possible if they see flames and to be particularly vigilant with cigarettes.

Crew manager Jason Martin said: "We were in attendance for 20 minutes but the drive to and from tied up two fire engines for an hour.

"The police have been informed.

"We would like to stress that during this dry period, members of the public need to be aware of the ease in which a moorland fire can start and spread.

"We would also also the public to call us as soon as possible if they see a fire, and to take extra care with cigarettes in this dry period."

On Sunday, May 13, crews were called to a fire covering 100 square metres of moorland near Rivington Pike.

There have been a number of reports of fires in the area during the warm weather, with some caused by barbecues.
