A FUNDRAISER will take on a 100-mile walk to raise money for a domestic abuse charity in Bolton.

Marie Ramute Zlabyte, aged 29, hopes to complete the trek in just 48 hours this weekend.

Marie, who lives in Farnworth, said: “I am very nervous. We will be walking for 48 hours through the day and the night. The work this charity does is close to my heart, as I witnessed domestic abuse as a child. I wanted to support a local charity in Bolton and help those who are the most vulnerable.” Completing the challenge will be a commendable achievement for the keen walker who was left with a serious back injury in an accident 10 years ago. She has two metal plates in her back and needed six screws in her spine.

Marie added: “After my accident I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to walk because of my injury. This will be the biggest challenge for me so far.”

All the money Marie raises will go to Fortalice, a charity which opened in 1977 to help women and children affected by domestic abuse.

The charity, based in Bradford Street in The Haulgh, provides counselling, training and emergency safe accommodation.

The walk starts in Hastings on Saturday, May 26. The route then visits Sandwich, New Romney and Hythe, and ends in Dover on Monday.

The annual 100-mile event is hosted by The Long Distance Walkers Association and is held in a different part of the country every year to coincide with the late May Bank Holiday.
