FIRE crews were called after a boarded up property was deliberately set on fire in Tyldesley.
The incident occurred at around 10.15am in Samuel Street, Hindsford.
It is believed that clothes, which had been left on the first floor when the former residents left, were purposely set on fire, with flames and smoke then spreading.
A GMFRS spokesman said: "Someone had seen some people leave the house and the fire stared afterwards.
"It is being treated as deliberate by the police and there is an ongoing investigation.
"It was fairly easily contained. There was just a lot of smoke damage to the property.
"There was complete smoke damage to the first floor and separate areas of fire."
