A BRAVE youngster is recovering at home after a yob threw burning plastic at him leaving him needing hospital treatment.

Mum Shivonne Flynn said her son Mason, has been left shaken by the incident but is being strong after the shocking incident

Now she is appealing for information to catch the teenager responsible — and thanked her friend and the fire service for their quick actions in treating the burns to his right arm and hand.

Nine-year-old Mason was playing football on playing fields in Edge Hill Road, Daubhill, when he was attacked by a piece of hot plastic by a teenager, from a small bonfire started by youths.

His friend took him to Sharon and Paul Verden's house, who are family friends

Sharon placed his injured arm and hand under running water until the fire brigade arrived.

Shivonne, who lives with her family in Over Hulton, said: "I just panicked and bolted round there.

"My partner was left looking after the other two children so was very worried about what had happened.

"When I got there I could seen small pieces of plastics still on his arm. His arm was under running water for 25 minutes.

"He has been very brave throughout and told me he could still write!"

Shivonne, went to the fields to confront those responsible but was met by a barrage of abuse.

"I said how could you do that to a little boy and leave him traumatised but I just got abuse," said Shivonne, "Three of the teenagers were nice and asked how he is but these others shouted insults."

She added: "He laughed at my little boy when he was trying to get the plastic off him. What is worrying he started speaking to my son when he went to get his ball which had rolled over to fire. He was being nice to Mason before just picking up the plastic and throwing it at him, how could he turn just like that

"Mason says he doesn't want to play on those fields anymore and has stayed inside since the incident."

Mason's dressing has been removed by he will still need to undergo check-ups to ensure the burns are healing.

Shivonne said: "I want to thank Sharon so much for what she did because it could have been far worse if she hadn't got him under the water.

"The firefighters were absolutely fantastic with him talking to him and keeping him calm.

"Mason asks why they did it, and I said to him that some children just don't care about other people."

She is appealing to people to contact police if they have information on those responsible.

Police are also investigating.
